Collegiate Wrestler

………………………………………………………………

The Foundation

My career in combat sports began on the wrestling mats of Lincoln High School under Brian Kelly and continued through the collegiate level at Huntingdon College under Craig Duncan. This deep wrestling pedigree provided the perfect transition into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts.

I am a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, having earned my Blue Belt from Suzanne Ramsden (Maverick Training Center) and my Purple and Brown Belts from Chris Conolley at SBG Alabama.

Competition & Experience

I believe in leading by example. My competitive background spans across multiple disciplines:

  • Mixed Martial Arts: Undefeated 5-0 Amateur record; currently competing at the Professional level.

  • Grappling: Multiple-time tournament and invitational champion.

  • Wrestling: Former Division III collegiate competitor and tournament placer.

My Coaching Philosophy

Coaching is more than just teaching techniques; it is my passion and a vital tool for mental health and clarity. My goal is to use combat sports to spread positivity and build a stronger community.

Whether you are stepping onto the mats to push your physical limits, learn self-defense, or simply decompress from the day's stress, I am here to help you better yourself. These classes are for the community to grow, and I am dedicated to helping every student—from hobbyist to competitor—reach their full potential.

disciplines of focus

-

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

The "Gentle Art" of Ground Control Led by a Brown Belt, our BJJ program focuses on leverage, pressure, and technique over raw strength.

  • The Method: We utilize a "Conceptual Learning" approach. Instead of just memorizing moves, you’ll learn the why behind body mechanics. Classes include technical drilling followed by controlled situational sparring (rolling).

• • The Goal: To make you feel comfortable and capable in any ground-based situation.

Wrestling for Combat Sports

-

The Foundation of the Grind Drawing from Coach Austin’s DIII collegiate background, this class bridges the gap between traditional wrestling and modern MMA.

  • The Method: Emphasis on explosive takedowns, hand-fighting, and "scrambling." We focus on the "Triple Threat" mentality—being able to dictate exactly where the fight takes place.

• • The Goal: Building a relentless gas tank and the ability to dominate top position.

-

Muay Thai & Kickboxing

The Art of Eight Limbs This class teaches you how to use your entire body as a weapon—fists, elbows, knees, and shins.

  • The Method: A mix of heavy bag work for conditioning and technical "Dutch-style" partner drills for accuracy. We emphasize proper shin-blocking and clinch work to ensure you are well-rounded.

• • The Goal: To develop rhythm, timing, and incredible cardiovascular endurance.

-

-

Boxing

The Sweet Science Our boxing program focuses on the fundamentals: footwork, head movement, and the power of the jab.

  • The Method: We focus heavily on "Mit Work" and defensive responsibility. You will learn to throw combinations with intent while staying balanced and protected.

• • The Goal: Mastering the art of hitting and not getting hit, while building elite upper-body conditioning.

what to expect

-

Teaching Methods: The "Triple Threat" Approach

  1. Technical Breakdown: We simplify complex movements into 3-step processes that anyone can follow.

  2. Live Resistance: Once a technique is understood, we apply it in "live" drills so you know it actually works under pressure.

  3. Positive Reinforcement: We believe the best athletes are built through encouragement. Coach Austin focuses on building your confidence as much as your skill set.

  • Attire: Comfortable athletic gear (shorts/t-shirt). For BJJ, a Gi is recommended but not required for your first week.

  • Gear: We recommend bringing a mouthguard, water bottle, and a positive attitude.

• • Preparation: Show up 10–15 minutes early to meet the team and get a tour of the mats.
